Once upon a time, two hearts were quietly being prepared for a love neither could have imagined.

Some stories are written in an instant. Ours was written over time.

After knowing each other for years, life continued to bring us back into one another's orbit. During a hair show, our paths crossed again. Machala couldn't help but notice how handsome Melvin was, but she smiled to herself, convinced he was just a little too young. What she didn't know was that love wasn't late—it was simply waiting for the perfect moment.

When the timing was finally right, one date changed everything. From that very first evening together, we both knew our story had begun. What started as a friendship became an unshakable love, filled with laughter, faith, adventure, and the kind of peace that feels like home.

One of our favorite chapters took us to New Orleans, where we celebrated Melvin's birthday during Halloween. Dancing hand in hand through the streets in a Second Line parade, we realized that life's sweetest moments aren't found in the destination—they're found in whom you're dancing through life with.

Then, just four minutes before a brand-new year began, our forever found its beginning. As the countdown to midnight filled the air, Melvin dropped to one knee. Before he could even finish, an overjoyed Machala reached down and grabbed the ring herself. It was imperfect, unforgettable, and absolutely us—the perfect beginning to our happily ever after.
